📊 Netflix adds interactive voting to shows
The platform is preparing to make viewers participants, not just observers. Netflix is implementing real-time voting for its shows, allowing subscribers to influence the plot from their screen or phone.
This was announced by the company’s CTO, Elizabeth. The goal is to make subscribers feel “part of the story.”
Voting has been successfully tested in the cooking show Dinner Time Live and will be used in the reboot of the talent contest Star Search next year.
The voting window is tied to the live broadcast. Miss the moment, miss the chance to vote. This pushes Netflix towards a “scheduled viewing” format.
The company is also working on multi-user “game nights” for the living room (where the phone is now the controller) and thematic “immersive” hub pages.
Netflix believes that betting on such interactive formats will help create a sense of community and stand out from competitors.
