🐭 Disney channels vanish from YouTube TV

Major Disney channels, including ESPN, ABC, FX, and Disney Channel, have been removed from the paid TV platform YouTube TV. The reason was the collapse of negotiations to renew the licensing agreement.

YouTube TV believes that Disney’s terms would lead to price increases for subscribers and would only benefit competing Disney services (such as Hulu + Live TV).

“We won’t agree to terms that disadvantage our members while benefiting Disney’s own TV products,” YouTube TV stated.

A Disney representative accused Google of using its dominant market position to eliminate competition and refusing to pay a fair price.

This year, YouTube TV already went through difficult negotiations but managed to secure deals with NBCUniversal, Fox, and Paramount.

If the Disney channels remain unavailable for an extended period, YouTube TV has promised to provide its subscribers with a $20 credit.
