🇬🇧 Apps Overtake Broadcast TV in UK Viewership for the First Time

A historic shift has taken place in the UK: 52.7% of public service broadcaster content (BBC, ITV, Channel 4) is now watched via streaming apps rather than traditional over-the-air broadcasts, according to TiVo.

Nearly half (48%) of paid SVoD users have switched to ad-supported tiers due to price sensitivity, while over 40% plan to cancel their subscriptions within six months.

Free ad-supported streaming (AVoD/FAST) has surged — now used by 52.5% of viewers (+10 percentage points year-over-year).

48.6% of viewers find it tiring to “hop” between multiple apps, with most using several in a single viewing session.

Almost 75% of daily viewing time is spent on UK-produced content.

Nearly 50% of consumers are willing to make purchases directly from the screen.

Experts note that the audience’s top demand is for a unified experience with easy search and personalized recommendations.
