💰 Shorts Catch Up to "Long" Videos in Ad Revenue
In the US, YouTube Shorts, the short-form video format, now generates equivalent or even greater advertising revenue per hour of viewing compared to traditional "long-form" content.
This was announced by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai during the Q3 2025 earnings report.
Short-form videos are now generating comparable revenue per watch hour to standard content. In some international markets, Shorts is even exceeding this metric.
The achievement of Shorts is part of the strong overall growth in YouTube’s advertising revenue, which increased by 15% for the quarter, reaching $10.3 billion.
The improved monetization is attributed to the continuous refinement of the Shorts recommendation systems, including through the integration of Gemini AI models.
The improved monetization confirms that investments in vertical content are justified. Shorts is now a mature advertising product capable of competing with traditional video.
