🇵🇱 EBU Concerned About Funding for Polish Public Media
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has called on the Polish government to ensure “adequate and sustainable funding” for the country’s public service media (PSM).
The proposal allocates PLN 2.5 billion (€0.59 billion) per year for PSM — more than 30% below the level previously discussed.
The EBU supports media independence reforms under the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) but cautions:
“Independence without adequate funding risks being independent in name only.”
The proposed funding level — around 0.06% of GDP — would place Poland 26th out of 30 European countries in terms of investment in public service media, half the European average of 0.12%.
The EBU emphasizes that Polish PSM are in a critical condition and urgently need a stable, predictable budget for 2026 to restore operational stability.
