▶️ Online Cinemas to Be Required to Share User Data with Mediascope
Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development has proposed expanding the range of data that online cinemas and social networks must provide to Mediascope for measuring internet audiences.
The proposal includes introducing a permanent user identifier to replace the current 48-hour ID, allowing for more accurate tracking of series viewing across multiple devices.
The new ID would be linked to the user’s mobile phone number provided during registration.
Platforms would also be required to transmit complete viewing data, including when specific content is paused or resumed.
The ministry claims that all data will be anonymized and securely protected.
Industry representatives, however, argue that such granular data, especially when tied to phone numbers (even anonymized), carries significant commercial value.
KinoPoisk stated that the current level of data sharing is sufficient, warning that the proposed level of detail could “border on an invasion of privacy.”
