🏈 Sports Streaming Takes Over the U.S.
A new study by Parks Associates shows that sports streaming in the U.S. is booming: 38% of households now subscribe to at least one sports streaming service — up from just 4% in 2019.
Analysts note that live sports broadcasts have become the backbone of streaming, fundamentally transforming the leagues’ business models. Platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Peacock now account for between one-quarter and one-third of the NFL’s total broadcast revenue (with 82% of viewers watching the NFL).
On average, American households follow 4.2 different sports per season. After the NFL, the most popular are college football (55%), MLB (53%), and NBA (46%).
Interactivity is also on the rise — 52% of NFL viewers use interactive features, deepening engagement and creating new monetization opportunities. Under the new $76 billion, 11-year NBA broadcast deal, Prime Video alone will deliver 26% of the league’s total TV revenue.
