🇪🇸 Spain to Lead the Creation of a European UHD Association
At the 4K HDR Summit in Seville, UHD Spain announced plans to establish a pan-European UHD association and presented new research showing that Spanish viewers still have a poor understanding of Ultra High Definition.
UHD Spain, Ultra HD Forum Italia, and FAVN (France) are beginning work on a unified platform to promote UHD and coordinate technical initiatives across Europe.
Spain’s private broadcasters (following RTVE) will transition to regular UHD broadcasting in 2026.
The survey revealed “general lack of awareness” about UHD. Viewers are most familiar with the term 4K (75% of respondents).
65% of respondents have “ideal conditions” for UHD viewing (a 44”+ TV at a distance of up to 3 meters).
For 2026, UHD Spain plans to release new educational materials and work with 5G and AI technologies to better explain the benefits of UHD to the public.
