🇪🇺 Europe Faces a Looming Wave of Piracy

The Live Content Coalition (representing European broadcasters and sports organizations) is calling on the EU for urgent legislative action to combat online piracy of live broadcasts.

Their demand comes after the European Commission’s previous anti-piracy recommendations proved ineffective, while illegal content distribution continues to grow, depriving rights holders of revenue.

The coalition stresses that piracy is not a “victimless act,” noting that “every stolen match or concert” results in lost income, jobs, and investment in Europe’s creative future.

To protect the creative and sports industries, the coalition insists on closing gaps in the Digital Services Act (DSA) by introducing:

📌 reliable and rapid removal of illegal content, adapted to real-time broadcasting;
📌 dynamic blocking orders that can be applied EU-wide in real time;
📌 clear legal cooperation between rights holders and intermediaries.
