📺 Terrestrial TV Is Making a Comeback in Germany

Terrestrial digital television (DTT) is gaining popularity in Germany, showing sharp growth driven by increased mobile viewing.

According to a Kantar study, 18% of German households (7.3 million) now watch TV via the DVB-T2 network, a 21% increase compared to 2023.

Fourteen percent of households (5.8 million) use DVB-T2 on portable devices, up from 4.4 million in 2023.

The appeal of DTT lies in its flexibility and mobility. Unlike streaming over mobile networks, DVB-T2 does not consume mobile data, making it a more reliable and cost-effective solution for consumers.

Media Broadcast CEO Franzi Petrik emphasized that terrestrial broadcasting will remain a crisis-resilient and energy-efficient method of content distribution in the future.
