👮‍♂️ Operator Receives Suspended Sentence in Germany

The District Court of Aachen (Germany) has sentenced the operator of Share-Online — one of the largest illegal file-hosting platforms — to a two-year suspended prison term.

This marks a significant victory for law enforcement and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).

From 2008 to 2019, Share-Online generated more than €50 million in revenue by illegally distributing content. The investigation led to the platform’s shutdown and the removal of nearly 20 million files.

The sentence sends a clear message that cyberlocker operators facilitating large-scale copyright infringement bear criminal responsibility. ACE emphasizes that operators cannot hide behind claims of neutrality when their business model supports piracy.

This is one of the most high-profile criminal cases against cyberlockers in Europe and is expected to serve as a strong deterrent.
