⏳ European Space Program Faces a Delay
The ministerial meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA) in Bremen encountered its first setback: ministers from 27 countries were unable to approve a joint budget of €22.5 billion.
The budget was meant to include funding for a major satellite constellation designed for global intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ERS-EO). The project was planned to be handed over to the European Commission (EC) in 2028 as the Earth Observation Governmental Service (EOGS).
Now, member states have an additional year to secure the necessary funds. The issue appears to lie in the need to redirect financial resources.
“The new scheme requires shifting national defense budgets toward ESA,” explained ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher.
He also noted that there are clear national priorities that differ from the goals of the European Commission.
