👶 European Parliament Adopts Report on Protecting Children Online

The European Parliament has approved a report on protecting minors on the internet, calling for urgent action against growing risks such as addictive behavior, disinformation, and mental health issues.

The EBU welcomed the decision, noting that protection requires a holistic approach that includes not only strict regulation but also empowerment through education and media literacy.

The European Parliament also calls on the European Commission to classify AI-generated celebrity deepfake content used to promote scams as a systemic risk under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This would require platforms to remove such content effectively.

Policymakers must ensure the prioritised promotion of regulated and safe content provided by public service media (PSM).
