🙈 Online Cinemas Will Be Required to Remove Films That “Discredit Traditional Values”
A new law requiring online cinema owners to stop distributing films that “discredit or promote the rejection of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values” will come into force on March 1, 2026.
The announcement was made by Olga Kazakova, head of the State Duma Committee on Culture.
The presence of such violations in films will serve as grounds for the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation to deny or revoke a distribution certificate.
If a distribution certificate is revoked, Roskomnadzor will require online cinema owners to stop distributing the film within 24 hours.
The requirement to remove content also applies to website owners or social media pages with a daily audience of more than 500,000 users.
As a result, a significant portion of content previously available to viewers may be blocked or removed from Russian streaming services.
