๐ Mandatory Content Labeling May Appear in Russia
The Ministry of Digital Development is working on a regulatory framework for introducing technology that signs content and code, aimed at reliably verifying the identity of users who publish materials and combating deepfakes.
The ministry confirmed that it is considering the introduction of a content labeling system (a digital watermark). Discussions are currently underway on what exactly should be labeled: original content or AI-generated content. An interagency working group will be created to find a balanced approach.
โIt is necessary to take a careful approach to preventing the criminal use of AI,โ the ministry stated.
Experts note that maintaining content quality while implementing hidden watermarks would require retraining models, which is estimated to cost 30โ40% of developing a new model. The main challenges include the absence of a universal standard and the need to tailor the technology individually for each AI model.
