๐ฌ European TV Production Slows Down
Growth in European television production is stagnating. The European Audiovisual Observatory reports a second consecutive annual decline based on 2024 results.
The main reason is a reduction in orders from streaming platforms. The number of titles commissioned by streamers fell by 7% compared to 2023. The total number of produced scripted works decreased by 5%.
Despite the downturn, public service broadcasters (PSBs) remain the backbone of the market. In 2024, they accounted for 56% of all commissioned scripted films. Global streamers accounted for only 14%.
Private broadcasters dominate in total output hours (59%), thanks to soap operas and telenovelas, which make up 60% of all broadcast hours.
Streaming platforms are heavily concentrated in a few markets: from 2015 to 2024, 48% of their commissions came from just three countries โ Spain (17%), the United Kingdom (16%), and Poland (15%).
