๐ดโโ ๏ธ ACE Targets Sideloaded Apps
The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) is stepping up its fight against digital piracy, focusing on apps installed on devices outside of official app stores โ the so-called sideloaded applications.
ACE claims that pirated apps obtained from file-sharing platforms bypass the security checks of Amazon, Apple and Google. Many of them contain malware, steal personal data, track users, and are used for financial fraud.
The alliance is sharing data on pirate apps with Amazon, Apple, Google and other partners. Enhanced cooperation helps block installation or operation of such apps and direct users toward legal services.
The organization warns that legislative initiatives requiring devices to be opened to sideloading must take into account security risks for users as well as intellectual property protection.
