🔥 Hollywood Will Never Be the Same — Netflix Acquires WBD
Netflix has reached a deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), including its streaming division (HBO Max, DC Comics, and the Harry Potter Universe), for approximately $82.7 billion.
Netflix outbid its competitors to gain access to a content library built over more than a century. It includes timeless classics, the Harry Potter franchise, Friends, and many other iconic films and series.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated that the merger will allow the company to “define the next century of storytelling.”
Cinema organizations have called the deal an “unprecedented threat” to global theatrical distribution, as Netflix’s business model runs counter to traditional box office releases.
The Directors Guild expressed “serious concerns” regarding competition and talent rights.
Experts described the acquisition as “existential” for the whole of Hollywood, emphasizing that a “Silicon Valley disruptor” is now firmly cementing itself at the core of the media industry.
