📹 France Télévisions Tests Airborne 5G Broadcasts
France Télévisions, together with Haivision and Neutral Wireless, carried out a large-scale test during the Bretagne Classic cycling race.
The goal of the “Conquering the Airspace” project was to create a hybrid workflow combining terrestrial, airborne, and satellite connectivity.
A motorcycle-mounted camera transmitted ultra–low-latency video via a Haivision Falkon X2 mobile transmitter to a private 5G cell installed onboard a lightweight aircraft.
Onboard the aircraft, the signal was received, processed (via StreamHub Go), and relayed to the ground through aggregated public 4G/5G networks. The Eutelsat satellite provided reliable backbone connectivity between the aircraft and the ground crew.
The test demonstrated that integrating private 5G networks, satellite links, and cellular technologies can transform live coverage of large events. Private 5G networks also help reduce CO₂ emissions by decreasing reliance on traditional RF systems.
