A study has revealed that elderly users face difficulties with television interface design

Research conducted by Ofcom in collaboration with the Digital Television Group (DTG) has revealed simple yet effective ways to improve IPTV platforms, making them more user-friendly for older viewers.

It turns out that voice search works better than traditional electronic program guides, and inclusive design, such as logical channel numbering, helps everyone without exception.

Study participants, people over 65, highlighted the main problems:

🔸 Overloaded home screens;
🔸 Unclear menus;
🔸 Complex app login procedures;
🔸 Inconvenient remote controls.

A “simple TV screen” prototype developed by DTG nearly halved these barriers.

Experts are confident: minor design changes will not only help the elderly but will also make television more comfortable for everyone.
