⚖️ Texas Sues TV Manufacturers Over Alleged Spying
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated lawsuits against major TV manufacturers Sony, Samsung, LG, Hisense, and TCL. The companies are accused of secretly recording what users watch in their homes.
At the center of the controversy is ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) technology. According to prosecutors, the software takes screenshots of the TV screen every 500 milliseconds and transmits viewing data to companies in real time without users’ consent.
This practice allegedly puts users’ personal data at risk, including passwords and banking information if they appear on the screen.
Paxton also expressed serious concern about the ties between Hisense and TCL and China. Under Chinese law, the government can collect user data through these companies, which poses a direct threat to U.S. national security.
“Buying a television does not mean automatically giving up your right to privacy,” the Attorney General’s office emphasized.
