😢 Sony Pictures Suffers a Pyrrhic Victory in Court

The Moscow Arbitration Court has put an end to the dispute between a former Sony Pictures division (now Content Club) and the Cinema Park theater chain.

The cinema chain was ordered to pay 126 million rubles for screening older hits such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

However, for Sony this is a “Pyrrhic victory.” Earlier, the court upheld a counterclaim by the cinema chain, ordering the major studio to pay 162 million rubles for lost profits due to canceled premieres (Morbius, Venom 3, Kraven the Hunter, and others).

The scale of the losses in figures:

🔹 8.8 billion rubles — total revenue lost by Russian cinemas due to Sony Pictures’ exit;
🔹 323 million rubles — potential revenue of just one chain, Rising Star Media, from screenings that never took place.

The court rulings illustrate the cost of a unilateral отказ from obligations: debts for past hits are offset by compensation for a canceled future.
