📽 Box Office in Russia Is Growing, and the Audience Is Getting Younger

Russian cinemas are ending the year with positive financial momentum. According to Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, box office takings reached 49.6 billion rubles by the end of December, which is 10% higher than last year’s figures.

Ten Russian films surpassed the 1 billion ruble box office mark. Among them are The Wizard of the Emerald City, Finist: The First Bogatyr, The Prophet, Batya 2, and Gorynych.

The cinema audience has become significantly younger. Viewers under 25 now account for more than 60% of admissions, while the 12–17 age segment has nearly doubled over the past four years.

Despite revenue growth, overall attendance has declined over the past five years. Box office growth is driven mainly by domestic blockbusters and changes in ticket pricing.

In total, 116 million people went to the movies in 2025, indicating strong interest in local content.
