🕹 Hollywood Is Snapping Up Video Game Adaptation Rights

Video game adaptations have become the leading trend in the film industry. According to Ampere Analysis, since 2019 the number of adaptation commissions has grown by an average of 30% per year.

In total, 272 projects were launched over this period, with the peak in 2024.

Following the success of The Last of Us and Fallout, studios have shifted toward live-action formats. In 2025, the share of such adaptations rose to 69%.

Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance are betting on theatrical releases (such as A Minecraft Movie), while Netflix, Disney, and Amazon are focusing on series to retain subscribers.

Despite the hype, the rights to several mega-hits have yet to be acquired. Among the most sought-after properties are Baldur’s Gate III, Black Myth: Wukong, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Sons of the Forest.

Analysts note that for a project to succeed, it needs a clear narrative and a fan base that extends beyond the gaming community.
