đ€Ș Netflix Is Deliberately âDumbing Downâ Movies
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck appeared on Joe Roganâs show to discuss their new film The Rip and at the same time revealed some of streamingâs âsecret formulas.â
Damon says Netflix asks filmmakers to change movie structure to match modern viewing habits.
Directors are now asked to put the âmain battleâ in the first five minutes rather than at the end so viewers donât switch away.
Screenwriters are told to restate key plot points in dialogue three or four times, specifically for people who get distracted by their phones while watching.
Affleck, however, is more optimistic. He cites the hit Adolescence as an example that broke all these rules: it has long silent scenes and a dark tone, yet audiences loved it. Ben believes such âcheat codesâ are not necessary if the story is truly strong.
