đŸ€Ș Netflix Is Deliberately “Dumbing Down” Movies

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck appeared on Joe Rogan’s show to discuss their new film The Rip and at the same time revealed some of streaming’s “secret formulas.”

Damon says Netflix asks filmmakers to change movie structure to match modern viewing habits.

Directors are now asked to put the “main battle” in the first five minutes rather than at the end so viewers don’t switch away.

Screenwriters are told to restate key plot points in dialogue three or four times, specifically for people who get distracted by their phones while watching.

Affleck, however, is more optimistic. He cites the hit Adolescence as an example that broke all these rules: it has long silent scenes and a dark tone, yet audiences loved it. Ben believes such “cheat codes” are not necessary if the story is truly strong.
