👩‍🎤 Roskomnadzor Blocks Popular Anime Encyclopedia

Roskomnadzor has restricted access to Shikimori, one of the largest Russian-language platforms dedicated to anime and manga.

The reason cited for the block was the presence of materials “harmful to children and adolescents.”

The agency said it identified the systematic distribution of content promoting “non-traditional relationships,” child pornography, and other materials deemed to have a negative effect on minors’ mental health.

Shikimori has been under the regulator’s scrutiny since 2019. The current domain was labeled as a “mirror” site, replicating previously banned content.

Anton Nemkin, a State Duma deputy, stated that under the guise of a “fandom,” the site promotes values that undermine children’s moral development, adding that “there can be no compromise on this issue.”

Roskomnadzor expects the site’s administrators to remove the prohibited materials. Founded in 2011, Shikimori functioned not only as a database but also as a social network for fans of Japanese culture.
