🎌 Japan’s Film Market Breaks Records

Japan’s box office had a triumphant year in 2025. According to Eiren, total revenues reached a historic high of ¥274.45 billion ($1.79 billion) — up 32% from the previous year.

The undisputed leader was Demon Slayer: Infinity Fortress – Part 1, which grossed a phenomenal $255 million, leaving all competitors far behind.

The film Kokuho earned $127 million, becoming the highest‑grossing live‑action Japanese film in history.

Other top performers included the new Detective Conan movie ($95.8 million) and the feature‑length Chainsaw Man ($67.8 million).

Foreign titles performed steadily but fell short of local hits. The import box‑office leader was Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning ($33.9 million), followed by Moana 2 ($33.3 million) and Jurassic World: Rebirth ($31.9 million).

Japan reaffirms its status as a market where local content — especially anime — doesn’t just compete with Hollywood, but sets the rules of the game.
