🎬 Russian Film Exports Abroad: Animation Leads, Series Struggle
Russia’s content export landscape is undergoing major transformation. Ekaterina Pshenitsyna, Director of International Development at Soyuzmultfilm studio, told TeleSputnik that feature animation remains Russia’s top export hit.
Key trends in film export:
🗺 New markets. Live‑action films are increasingly targeting the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, Serbia, and Turkey.
🎞 Series challenges. Drama series — once aimed at Europe and global streamers — are now the hardest to sell.
▶️ Digital focus. Online platforms are more receptive to Russian content than traditional TV, thanks to flexible recommendation algorithms.
Experts emphasize that outdated support measures are no longer sufficient. The industry urgently needs subsidies for marketing and localization to gain traction in competitive new markets that demand substantial advertising budgets.
