🧐 The State Duma Expands Ministry of Culture Powers in Cinema

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation will receive exclusive rights to annually determine which films receive government funding.

The State Duma has already supported the relevant provisions in the first reading.

The support will target films about heroic history and the unity of the Russian peoples. The focus is on cinema that strengthens the institution of the family, promotes socially significant professions (doctors, rescuers, workers), and films dedicated to the nature and culture of Russia’s regions.

Olga Kazakova, head of the State Duma Culture Committee, noted that government support will cover both feature and documentary cinema. She said that rising cinema attendance during the New Year holidays confirms a high demand among viewers for quality domestic content.
