🔥 Olympic Viewership Surpasses Expectations
The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo delivered spectacular numbers. The broadcast drew 21.4 million viewers across NBC and Peacock — 34% higher than the Beijing 2022 opening.
The Milan Games have become the most‑watched Winter Olympics in history online, with an average digital audience exceeding 3 million.
Since the last Winter Games, Peacock’s paid subscriber base has grown from 13 million to 41–42 million, and by Friday, total viewing time had reached 700 million minutes.
Viewers searched for advertisers’ products 63% more often than during Beijing 2022, marking the highest engagement level ever recorded for Olympic ceremonies.
Rick Cordella, President of NBC Sports, said the audience interest surpassed all expectations, adding that the scenic Alpine landscapes of Italy provided the perfect backdrop for the start of the two‑week marathon of competition.
