🎉 Paul Thomas Anderson’s night of triumph at the 2026 BAFTAs

The 76th BAFTA Awards ceremony took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall and proved to be a triumphant evening for the political thriller One Battle After Another, which scooped six trophies, including Best Film and Best Director.

Key highlights of the awards:

🏆 Main winner: Paul Thomas Anderson and One Battle After Another also took home prizes for screenplay, cinematography, editing and supporting actor (Sean Penn).

🏆 Historic moment: Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama Sinners won three awards, with Coogler becoming the first Black filmmaker to win in the Original Screenplay category.

🏆 Surprise of the night: Robert Aramayo, star of the dramedy I Swear, shocked the room by winning Best Actor (beating DiCaprio and Chalamet) and also taking the Rising Star award.

🏆 British triumph: Historical drama Hamnet was named Outstanding British Film of the Year, while Jessie Buckley received the award for Best Actress.

The ceremony was also marked by sharp commentary: Alan Cumming poked fun at the “lack of escapism” in today’s cinema, and director David Borenstein reminded the audience of the importance of moral choices in dark times.
