šŖ Scream 7 is breaking records
David Ellisonās new Paramount empire has yet another reason to celebrate. While Hollywood is busy dissecting the Warner Bros. Discovery takeover, horror sequel Scream 7 is delivering the best preview opening in franchise history with 7.8 million dollars, beating the sixth filmās 5.7 million and proving the slasher genre is largely immune to bad reviews.
The studio is forecasting a 40 million dollar first weekend, while analysts see potential for up to 45 million; the global launch could reach 60 million.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has the worst criticsā score in the series at 37%, but audiences are more forgiving so far, with a 76% approval rating.
Neve Campbell returns to the franchise, joined once again by the veteran trio of Courteney Cox and David Arquette. Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley also come back to the screen after decades away.
For the first time in the franchiseās history, the film is available in IMAX.
Despite the controversial firing of Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega, director Kevin Williamson (the original filmās screenwriter) has managed to reignite fan interest by doubling down on nostalgia and updating the rules of survival for a new generation.
