🔥 Olympics 2026 set historic viewing records across Europe

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has released its viewership report for the 2026 Winter Olympics, showing that the Games were the most successful ever for many public broadcasters, with hundreds of millions of viewers watching free-to-air and delivering record market shares on both TV and digital platforms.

Italy (host nation). Two out of three Italians watched RAI’s coverage, with 9.2 million people tuning in to the Opening Ceremony, corresponding to a 46% audience share.

Germany. ARD’s coverage reached around 40 million viewers, or nearly half the country’s population.

United Kingdom. BBC Sport set an all-time record with 83 million streams and more than 44 million hours of online viewing.

Norway. Coverage achieved an extraordinary reach of 87% of the population aged 10 to 79.

France. More than 50 million people followed the biathlon successes and other events on France Télévisions.

EBU experts stress that these massive figures demonstrate how free, universal access to major sports events still has the power to unite entire nations.
