๐ Streamers bet on documentaries
In the second half of 2025, Russian online cinemas released 174 original projects, up 11% year-on-year.
According to a study by Jโson & Partners Consulting, the main growth driver was documentary content.
Key facts:
๐ Documentary boom. The number of non-fiction releases increased by 48%. Platforms value them for their short production cycles and their ability to expand the context of hit series.
๐ฐ State support. Total public funding for the industry reached 39.7 billion rubles (+26%). One-third of all premieres (40 projects) were created with backing from IRI, the Cinema Fund or the Ministry of Culture.
๐ Growth leaders. Kion expanded its library the fastest (+67%), followed by Okko (+42%) and Premier (+36%).
๐งฎ Efficiency. Okko notes that its original-content strategy helped increase viewing time by 81%.
In 2026, state fund budgets will remain at a high level, but experts no longer expect explosive growth in subsidies, forecasting a modest 2% increase.
