🏮 Pegasus 3 soars toward half a billion in China

China's box office continues its post-holiday recovery. Last weekend's total grosses reached $107.9 million, with racing comedy "Pegasus 3" predictably holding onto the top spot.

China’s top 5 box office:

  • Pegasus 3. Earned $49.5 million over the weekend. The film’s cumulative total now stands at an impressive $529.6 million. The story of veteran Zhang Chi leading an underdog team to international rally glory has captivated audiences.
  • Guardians’ Blades. Yuen Woo-ping’s action film starring Wu Jing and Jet Li added another $20.3 million (total $158.2 million). The epic tale of escorting a fugitive to Chang’an holds second place.
  • Exit from Fear. Zhang Yimou’s spy thriller banked $14.5 million (total $155.4 million). The plot centers on hunting a mole leaking classified intelligence.
  • Boonie Bears: Hidden Protector: The 12th installment in the animated franchise grossed $13.5 million (total $132.1 million).
  • Night King. The comedy-drama about saving a Hong Kong nightclub rounds out the top five with $4.8 million.

Despite local successes, China’s year-to-date box office of $1.41 billion remains 55.9% behind the same period last year. The industry is banking on strong spring releases for recovery.
