📺 More Russians are giving up on TV
The Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) has released new data on how Russians consume media, showing that despite ongoing digitalisation, television still holds its ground even as the number of people abandoning it continues to grow.
Key figures from the study:
- Viewing frequency. Almost half of respondents (44%) turn on the TV almost every day, while nearly a third of the population (29%) has completely stopped watching television programming.
- Why they watch. For one in three viewers (30%), TV is just background noise, while 34% say they use television exclusively to follow the news.
- Trust and leaders. As a news source, TV (47%) is only slightly ahead of news websites (44%). The most popular and trusted channels remain Rossiya 1, Channel One and NTV.
- Perceived quality. One in four respondents (28%) believes TV news has improved over the past couple of years, while only 13% say it has gotten worse.
The survey was conducted in February–March 2026 and covered 1,500 people across the country.
