🛰 RSCC to refresh orbital fleet by 2030

By 2030, eight new communications and broadcasting satellites will be launched into geostationary orbit.

RSCC CEO Alexei Volin told TASS that these new spacecraft will replace those nearing the end of their service life.

The new satellites will deliver 286 transponders, replacing 269 that are being phased out. This will boost the overall capacity of the network.

Among the satellites to be replaced is Express‑AT1, which suffered a failure on March 4 and was decommissioned about three years ahead of schedule.

RSCC has no plans to expand the number of geostationary positions, as this is tied to the orbital slots allocated to Russia.

At the same time, Russia’s total satellite constellation will grow significantly thanks to the low Earth orbit (LEO) Bureau 1440 constellation and the high elliptical orbit (HEO) Express‑RV system.
