▶️ Classic films hard to find on streaming

A study by Dark Horse agency has uncovered an uncomfortable truth for British film fans: even paying for subscriptions to all the major services does not guarantee access to the biggest hits.

Analysts examined 371 significant films (Oscar nominees since 2000 and box office leaders) and found that 100 of them (27%) are unavailable for free streaming in the UK.

The situation is even worse for Oscar winners. Around 34% of Best Picture nominees are missing from streaming libraries. Hits like Oppenheimer, Slumdog Millionaire and 12 Years a Slave are among those on the “blacklist”.

Even with simultaneous subscriptions to Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video, users get access to only half of the films studied. To watch the rest, they must pay extra for individual rentals or purchases.
