🚫 Subscribers Protected from Unauthorized Payments
The State Duma has passed a law requiring online services to simplify the procedure for users to cancel automatic subscription renewals. The amendments are being introduced to the Law "On Consumer Rights Protection."
Services will be obligated to accept a user’s request to stop using previously provided bank details for payments.
Canceling auto-renewal will be possible electronically, directly on the service’s website or within its application.
Roskomnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) will be tasked with monitoring compliance with this law.
Previously, many services would renew subscriptions without notifying users, citing the absence of a legal obligation to do so, which led to unexpected charges.
If signed into law, it will come into force on March 1, 2026.
