🐻 Animaccord to Expand the Masha and the Bear Franchise with New Spin-Off
The animation studio Animaccord has announced the production launch of a brand-new animated series, Masha and the Three Bears, which will serve as a spin-off to Russia's flagship global animation hit.
The project will be presented to the international industry community at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, taking place from June 21 to 27, 2026. The debut trailer is slated for a fall release ahead of the major industry markets MIPCOM and Brand Licensing Europe, with the global premiere scheduled for the second half of 2027.
In the upcoming series, Masha will be joined by three entirely new characters: Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear (alternatively framed as Elder, Middle, and Younger Bear). The overarching narrative will center on universal, family-oriented themes, including child-rearing, parental care, and core family values.
According to Magdalena Wielemieruk, Commercial Director at Animaccord, the creative team sought a foundational concept to reframe classic folklore:
“The character of Masha is inherently rooted in traditional folk tales, making the adaptation of the classic Goldilocks and the Three Bears narrative a natural evolution. However, our inspiration extended beyond folklore. A key creative touchstone for us was the French comedy Three Men and a Cradle, which provided the foundation for a dynamic where multiple caregivers look after a single child.”
To elevate the comedic elements and craft distinctive paternal archetypes, the creators also drew inspiration from the cult French comedy The Dads (Les Compères), starring Pierre Richard and Gérard Depardieu. The bears will feature contrasting personalities and parenting styles—ranging from strict and pedantic to cheerful, gentle, and highly emotional. These distinct approaches will serve as the primary engine for both situational comedy and family dynamics.
The episodic storylines of the first season will focus on highly relatable, everyday family rituals—from haircuts and bedtime routines to small shared adventures. Through these comedic setups, the creators aim to demonstrate to young viewers that parental rules and boundaries are driven solely by love and affection.
The original Masha and the Bear series, which debuted in 2009, is currently in production on its ninth season. The franchise holds a Guinness World Record as the most-viewed animated cartoon on YouTube, has been translated into 47 languages, and consistently ranks among the top two most in-demand children’s shows globally, according to data from Parrot Analytics.
In tandem with the new spin-off, Animaccord continues to deepen its collaboration with streaming giant Netflix—which recently acquired the rights to seasons 8 and 9 of the original series—and is actively developing a feature-length animated film slated for release in 2028.
